North End
Premise: In a future where the line between human and machine is blurred, a 10-year-old girl and her father must flee their home after an attack by her caregiver hints to a greater upheaval beyond their rural surroundings.

Visual Tone: Comparable to the sharp and artful drear of Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go with the driving tension of Deliverance, NORTH END is not caught up in larger sci-fi iconography or cliche but kept small, from the point of view of a child as we are wrenched from raw, close and violent encounters to more quiet, lonely and reflective moments between a father and daughter. Hailey and John, our main characters, are teased along with only fragments of clues to what mysterious uprising lies in the world beyond their cold, expansive environment. This near future will be bolted to that which is old and worn, with our imagination painting the broader picture. The visuals will be precise, elegant and painfully stark, using minimal effects that are executed flawlessly to present an unquestioned reality of a soon-to-be future that takes place in the dead quiet of winter on the outskirts of civilization. Other inspirations: The Thing, The Witch, Children of Men, Misery, Straw Dogs, The Shining
